How the ban is being enforced
The Queensland Government in conjunction with the National Retail Association, will continue to work with retailers and bag suppliers to ensure they are compliant with the plastic bag ban.
Community members and retailers are encouraged to contact the National Retail Association to report retailers who they believe are not complying with the ban or a bag supplier who has provided false information about a banned plastic shopping bag.
A retailer who is found to be supplying the banned bags may be fined 50 penalty points per offence. Non-compliant retailers will be reminded of their obligations under the ban and supported by the National Retail Association and the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation to only provide shopping bags which are compliant with the ban.
A person, such as a supplier, who is found to be providing misleading information about plastic bags may also be fined 50 penalty points per offence.
